Course Description
This seminar will present two separate design issues related to the design of industrial structures. The first half of the seminar, presented by Dr. William Thornton of Cives Engineering Corporation, will be devoted to connection design. The second presenter will be John Rolfes of Computerized Structural Design, who will discuss seismic design of industrial structures. This course meets Florida continuing education requirements (Florida continuing education provider number 0005912).

Dr. William A. Thornton is Corporate Consultant and Vice President for Cives Engineering Corporation of Roswell, Georgia. He was elected (February 2013) to the National Academy of Engineering, class of 2013. He is the winner of the AISC 1995 T.R. Higgins Lectureship Award, and the 2003 AISC Lifetime Achievement Award. A Fellow of ASCE and a Member of AWS and the Research Council on Structural Connections (RCSC), he currently serves as a member of technical committees of AISC, ASCE, and RCSC, and was chairman of the AISC Committee on Manuals for 26 years, from 1985 through 2011.

John A. Rolfes is a Vice President of Computerized Structural Design, a structural engineering firm located in Milwaukee, WI. Mr. Rolfes has a B.S. Degree from Iowa State University and a M.S. Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Mr. Rolfes has been with Computerized Structural Design for 26 years and has been a principal with the firm for 16 years. John is a member of ASCE, AISC and the Association of Iron and Steel Technology (AIST). He is a member of the AISC Committee on Industrial Buildings and Non-Building Structures, a member of AISC Task Committee 9, responsible for the AISC Seismic Provisions, a member of the AISC Seismic Manual Committee and a member of the AIST Mill Buildings Committee, responsible for Technical Report No. 13, the Guide for the Design and Construction of Mill Buildings.

Registration
The registration fee is $280 for advance registration, at least ten days before the seminar date. The registration fee includes light breakfast, lunch, coffee breaks, seminar notes and a continuing education certificate. The cost of on-site registration the day of the seminar is $300, and will be based on the availability of seating and course materials. Payment can be made by check or credit card.
